33 injured in chemical plant explosion in U.S.

Explosion at US chemical plant injures 33Chicago - Southern U.S. state of Louisiana in an explosion at a chemical plant Tuesday injured at least 33 people, officials said.
Produce heavy black smoke and orange flames Geismar, a small town north of New Orleans in the plant can be seen billowing out.
By ambulance about 30 people were transported to area hospitals and three others were evacuated with helicopters, Kelly told AFP.

People within a two mile radius of potentially toxic smoke to protect yourself, keep their windows closed and the air conditioning units were told to stop.
"We have completed the first phase of our monitoring," Kelly said. "We have not seen spikes of any chemicals in the air."
Williams Olefin plant explosion just before 9:00 AM (1300 GMT), the local government said in a statement on its Facebook page.
"No 'highly hazardous material, at this stage were involved in this incident," Iberville Parish Council said.
According to the company's Web site features, ethylene and polymer grade propylene at about 1.3 billion pounds to 90 million pounds a year makes.(AFP)
